PUBLIC ENEMY - Black Sky Over The Projects: Apartment (2025)
and so this adventure begins. The urge to write came spontaneously as I listened to their new album. The distorted guitars are captivating, as are the projections — today, in 2025, toward 2026: a commitment to addressing the challenges of the future. It’s thought-provoking. In a time increasingly bound to criticism of the world around us (absolutely justified and necessary, of course!), thinking about a 'future' feels almost avant-garde.
The lyrical impact of the distortions is striking, the choice of sounds impeccable.
The rhythms, the noise, and the blend they create are mesmerizing.
Sometimes they remind me of certain passages by Rage Against The Machine; sometimes echoes of the latest work by Assalti Frontali come to mind. They’re enjoyable, easy to listen to, and make you want to crank up the volume.
It’s an intriguing album in an increasingly fatigued and frayed musical landscape, in a world (both musical and otherwise) where it’s becoming harder to maintain shared and meaningful categories.
