Asymmetrical Hearing: Notes from a Sbilenco Ear

A DOG TO A RABBIT - A Dog to a Rabbit (2010)

I am not able to listen to (and be acknowledged about) everything. I discovered them on the radio last week. What a surprise! Let’s be clear: nothing remarkably different from what I’ve already heard (but does it truly matter that what we listen to is fresh or innovative? Absolutely yes, it is one of the essential factors to avoid sinking in the mire of monotony) but if I consider this album is 15 years old, then I enjoy it. It’s a teenager attempting to assert itself through (its view of) rebellion. In conversation with society? In opposition to society? It doesn’t matter much, the intent is what lets you listen to the entire album with that melancholic patronizing kindness of someone who has already experienced that stage, someone who has already enjoyed the complete discography of Mudhoney, Nirvana, and who still dreams about the youthful uprising that will someday arrive.
